Honest diagnosis

CFI Vacuum opened in 1995 as a small family operation with a simple promise: reliable, affordable vacuum repair, done personally. The promise hasn't changed.
4.3 11 Google reviewsThe man behind CFI Vacuum is Mike — owner, lead technician, and very often the only pair of hands your machine will pass through. Since 1995 he has diagnosed and repaired thousands of vacuum cleaners for Richmond households and businesses, and the way customers describe watching him work says more than any credential could. One Google reviewer put it like this: "He fixed my Dyson while having a conversation about vacuum cleaners. It was like watching a guy take apart and clean a gun with a blindfold on." Another wrote that he told her everything wrong with her machine within twenty seconds of looking at it — and was right.
The business grew up on Richmond's north side, operating for years from its original Brook Road shop before relocating to the current West End workshop at 3004 Sandy Bluff Pl. If an older directory listing still shows the Brook Road address, that's us — same family business, same owner, new bench. Today the workshop runs by appointment only, which is deliberate: it means the person who diagnoses your machine is the person who repairs it, your estimate happens while you're standing there, and nothing sits in a queue behind walk-in traffic.
Along the way CFI Vacuum built what is now the most certified vacuum repair bench in Richmond: manufacturer-authorized service training for Miele, Sebo, Riccar/Simplicity, Sanitaire, and Cirrus, brand service training across Hoover, Oreck, Bissell, Shark, and Dyson, and national NASTeC and ISCET technician certifications covering the diagnostics, electronics, and lithium-ion battery work modern machines demand. That training means genuine parts, warranty-eligible work, and repair knowledge most general shops don't carry — and it extends into the commercial Sanitaire fleets that Richmond janitorial companies run hard every night, backed by ISSA and IICRC cleaning-industry credentials. See the full list of certifications behind the bench.
The numbers behind the workshop are simple and have held steady for three decades: every job starts with a call for an estimate, valid for 30 days; if a repair would ever run more than $25 over the estimate, work stops until you approve it; and every repair leaves with a 90-day warranty. Just as important is the thing that doesn't fit on a price sheet — if your machine isn't worth fixing, Mike will tell you so before you've spent a dollar, and help you choose one that will still be running in fifteen years.
